Places of the Heart
Flagstaff holds a special place in my heart. I grew up on the East Coast (Philadelphia, Washington, DC, New Jersey) and really had no appreciation for living in a beautiful environment surrounded by sustained relationships with good people. For me, the trees, mountains and hiking opportunities in this area are quite special. I love seeing the San Francisco peaks each day. Did you ever notice how they always look different? But, community fundamentally rests in the relationships we nurture through time. Macy’s coffee house and the Flagstaff Playhouse (Theatrikos) are two locations in Flagstaff where these relationships cluster together for me. We come together in peace and understanding, sensitivity and tolerance. We stand together and resist the forces of violence and destruction that inhabit so much of our planet. I am made stronger by my community. I am more human because of my community.
